FEMINISM

Feminism is a national movement and ideology that fights for the political, economic and social rights for women. It is working towards an environment where women are considered equal to men in all aspects and to build a place where women are safe. Feminists are people of any gender who support the idea of feminism. But unfortunately, the word feminism is linked to “male bashing.” People have to understand that wanting women to succeed is not the same as wanting men to fail. It is gender equality. Then why there aren’t “menists” or “man- supporters?” because as sad and unfair it is, men are more privileged than women in almost all spheres of life. The basic difference between gender equality and feminism is that when we say gender equality it somewhere implies that men and women are the same whereas feminism is based on women having freedom with respect to the qualities each person has. Anyone who thinks women deserve the same opportunities as men is a feminist. 

Well, we are in the 21^st century and women have been fighting for their equal rights since many centuries now. I think it is about time that we learnt and understood that anyone’s gender doesn’t define what they can or should do. But sadly, humans don’t learn very easily. They still think that women are the “inferior” gender with lesser brains, power, strength and more emotions. All humans are crafted the same way and each one has the freedom to decide who they want to be or what they want to do. The society has made these norms and which everyone has to fulfil. Men are supposed to be strong, muscular, supposed to hide emotions and be the one who earns money for the household. Whereas women are associated with being weak and fragile expected to do all the housework, waiting every day for their husbands to return from work so that they can serve them. It is the responsibility and duty of ours to make a society where everyone and anyone an be whoever they want to be and do whatever they want without having to worry about social conventions. Because that’s not who women or men are and that’s not what they want. People should have the freedom in the world to showcase their own talents and interests. They were born this way and they should be proud of it.  People through generations and centuries have fought for women to have an equal place in the society as men and it is about time we respect the struggle and treat women with respect and give them equal opportunities as men.

We need to make the society a better place not just for people of this generation but a gender neutral environment for the future generations. We need to be able to provide the freedom to our future generations to be whoever they want to be and do what they wish to do, without being worried of any kind of conventions and stereotypes. We need to liberate the society of all these unnecessary expectations so that people can thrive in the fields they are interested in. There is still a lot to achieve and change is only possible once we strive towards it.
