BLACK LIVES MATTER
On 25 March,2020, George Floyd, a 46 year old black man was killed by a white police officer Derek Chauvin for "allegedly using a counterfeit bill". The officer knelt on Floyd's neck for about eight minutes even after his constant plea to stop and saying that he couldn't breathe. Two other officers were stopping the public gathered around trying to stop them interfering. Some of you may say that it was his fault, but come to think of it, was it really worth his life? But the " privileged white" officer showed no mercy because George was a black man who are apparently quite capable of doing so.
Another such case was that of Breonna Taylor's death in Louisville. The police "suspected" that her home had been a drop site for drug exchange. There was firing in the house and the officials shot Breonna "at least 8 times".
The United States of America have been in a turmoil. There has been an uproar from people and there have been protests in almost all the states. People have been joined by many celebrities and music artists and atheltes like Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Ariana Grande, Michael Jordan, Timothee Chalaney, J. Cole, Maddona and Harry Styles among numerous others are also taking part in these protests. A mural saying "BLACK LIVES MATTER" has been painted on the road leading up to the White House.
Well, how is it made to be the people's fault for being black? Infact WHY is being black a problem or anyone's fault? The skin colour of a person doesn't define them. It is the person's character, not the skin colour that should be used to define them. After all the difference in skin colour is caused due to the presence of the chemical, melanin in the body. Melanin has 64 different shades and a person who has a darker shade in their body, doesn't mean that they are criminals. It is because of the stereotypical, mind of the white society who has always treated them as slaves or the so called "lower class". It is high time that this is changed and we have the power to. Why can't we see people for who they are and not what they are?
#bkacklivesmatter or #blm isn't just an Instagram trend. This isn't just a trend that was popular a month ago and is normal now. It isn't a moment but a movement. And it shouldn't be left aside before making a mark. Posting a story won't help the people, creating awareness will, signing petitions will. We have to educate our society so that such incidents are not repeated in future. Other innocent lives shouldn't be sacrificed for the same cause again. Changing even ten people's view and mindset is also a change in the society making it a better place to live. No one's life is waste each and every life matters and is worth and valued.
