DEPRESSION
This year has been a time for us to know and deal with our feelings. The happy ones, the sad ones, the depressing ones. Which brings to our question. What is depression? Clinical depression is a mental health disorder characterized by persistently bad mood. It can be caused when people spiral in their bad and negative thoughts. It begins with just simple sadness or a bad mood. It is a dark, very dark place inside our own mind. We usually keep it closed and in control, because it houses our worst fears and disabilities. But the moment you let it control you, it can be drastically dangerous. There can be several causes for depression ranging from poverty to loneliness. When you stops opening up,closing yourself to people, you enter the dark void of your thoughts, which can traumatize you for a long time in your life. So, how do we deal with depression or rather, prevent ourselves from it? Firstly and most importantly, and I cannot stress this enough.
Reach out. Talk to people about your feelings. You are more important to people than you think. There is always someone out there willing to help you and listen to you. Do not close the door on the face of your friends and family. Not everyone is faking their concern. People care about you. You are not a burden on anyone. Control your mind, DO NOT let it control you. No situation is as bad as you assume it to be. There is a reason for everything. Lastly and very very importantly, ending your life is not the answer to anything. It will not do you or anyone around you any good. There is so much more to life than the problems, and you'll miss it all by ending yourself.
If you are happy with your life and the things going on around you, WOW!! Pat yourself on the back. Use your happiness to cheer your peers and the others around you. Contact the friends who you think are lonely. Talk to people. Do not make anyone feel unwanted or unloved. Pacify them. Be a good friend. If you think that any of your friends is acting distant, go and talk to them. Make them sit it all out. Console them and make them feel loved.
Sometimes the people who seem to be happy, who help others through their problems, may be the ones hurting deep inside. These are the people good at hiding their feelings. It might take a lot of effort to get through their shell. They will only open up to you if they trust you. That trust has to be earned and then kept up. Talk to them and help them and anyone you feel needs it.
It is your job as a friend to help your friends and not make fun of them for having reached out to you.
